Punjab govt accused of graft, negligence

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab President Ahsan Rasheed on Saturday said that the Punjab government was involved in massive corruption and criminal negligence, causing a loss of hundreds of lives in the province.

Referring to a news report that the health authorities had shelved an inquiry report in which four senior health managers were accused of embezzlement and theft of medicines in public hospitals, Rasheed said that the Punjab government was making a mockery of the investigation procedure.

The inquiry report could have led to fixing of responsibility on ‘influential’ officials, he said.

Separately, PTI Punjab General Secretary Dr Yasmin Rashid said that the Punjab government was also responsible for the loss of hundreds of lives due to dengue virus last year, as it had failed to follow protocols laid down by the health authorities in 2007. pr
