ANP Senator says Pakistan doesn’t need large army

ISLAMABAD: Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Haji Adeel has said that Pakistan does not need a large army and its military should protect country’s territorial boundaries instead of “ideological frontiers”.

Speaking at a seminar on Wednesday, Senator Adeel said ideological frontiers were safeguarded by the parliament not by the armed forces. Adeel said that though he supported army in FATA but would oppose it in south western Balochistan province.

Haji Adeel also stressed the need to introduce changes in army's setup.

The Senator said that civilian government should be given right to formulate country’s foreign policy and the provinces should also be allowed to make defence laws.
