Free and fair polls not an easy task, admits CM
Staff Report
QUETTA: Caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Ghaous Bakhsh Barozai on Tuesday said that holding free and fair elections in Balochistan was not an easy task but added that he was still optimistic.
“We have no intention of calling in the army but would keep it on standby during elections,” he said.
Caretaker CM Balochistan said it is an honour for him that all political parties placed their trust in him which in turn has multiplied his responsibilities, adding that no one should doubt the “holding of free and fair elections and the elections would be held according to their scheduled time. We would provide a conducive atmosphere to all political parties,” he said.
Barozai said the law & order situation in Balochistan was no better than other provinces but claimed his administration was focused and trying to normalise the situation.
He further said that he met the chairman of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Sardar Akhter Mengal to discuss political issues.
“I assured them that we will make the coming elections peaceful and transparent. If the elections don’t take place on time, it could create more turmoil in the country. We want to ensure transparent elections,” the caretaker CM said.
Barozai said the caretaker cabinet had not been finalised but efforts were underway to form it as soon as possible.
