Pay today or face embarrassment, NAB warns electricity defaulters

ISLAMABAD: Electricity bill defaulters should brace themselves for public embarrassment unless they pay their bills by today (Thursday), the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has warned. NAB had initiated proceedings on the offence of default in payment of government dues (Electricity bills) under the NAO 1999. In this context, a public notice through newspaper advertisement was floated on March 21, 2013. The defaulters were asked to pay their dues by April 04, 2013 and obtain clearance from NAB after production of challan along with the paid bills. The names of defaulters who fail to comply by April 04, 2013 will be forwarded to print and electronic media. For individuals who fail to clear their dues by April 19, 2013, criminal proceedings will be initiated - leading to arrest and prosecution. No further extension will be granted for voluntary return of the defaulted amount. WAPDA is also helping NAB in this regard and has set up cells in the offices of power Distribution Companies (DISCOs). Defaulters can also pay their bills in the offices of DISCOs. staff report
