ECP takes notice of caretaker interior minister’s statement
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of Caretaker Interior Minister Malik Habib’s statement regarding PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif. The ECP has also summoned the video record of Habib’s statement.
During a press conference alongside ECP Secretary Afzal Khan on Tuesday, Malik Habib responded to criticism received regarding the statement and said he was impartial and his main responsibility was to conduct free and fair elections.
Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Mutahhida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had called for the dismissal of the caretaker Interior Minister over the biased statement.
PPP leader Sumsam Bukhari in a statement said that the caretaker interior minister was no more impartial due to his controversial statement and demanded the Prime Minister to sack him immediately. Bukhari further said PPP would be filing a reference in the ECP against the interior minister today (Tuesday).
PTI Secretary Information, Shafqat Mahmood also demanded immediate dismissal of the Interior Minister and said that by issuing a statement in favour of Nawaz Sharif he had showed his partiality towards him.
