Supreme Court rejects plea seeking Musharraf’s arrest

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has rejected the plea seeking the arrest of former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

During proceedings of the treason case against the former president, the apex court stated that no stay order regarding political activity had been issued. Musharraf’s lawyer, Ahmed Kasuri argued that the case was being pursued hurriedly and hastily to which Justice Jawwad S Khawaja replied that it had been ongoing for four years.

Kasuri added that General Kayani’s name was also included in the PCO but he was not issued a notice.

As proceedings continued, Kasuri sought additional time to submit the reply of Musharraf and said if Pandora’s Box was opened several hidden names would be revealed. Justice Khilji Arif replied that there was no issue with Pandora’s Box being opened.

The hearing of the treason case against the former president has been adjourned till April 15.

Pervez Musharraf did not appear personally before the Supreme Court on Tuesday to answer a summons over alleged treason dating back to his time in office.
