PHC releases 3 ex-legislators on bail in fake degree cases
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has accepted the bail appeals of three former parliamentarians, including former provincial minister Syed Aaqil Shah, in fake degree and dual nationality cases.
Aqil Shah had been sentenced to one year in prison and fines Rs 3,000 in a fake degree case. The sentences were given by district and sessions judge on April 4. Shah was elected as an MPA from PK-4 constituency of Peshawar. In other cases of dual nationality and fake degree, the court awarded punishment to former legislators Javed Tarkae and Sardar Ali. All the three former parliamentarians appealed the PHC for bail, which was accepted on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court Multan bench on Monday admitted for hearing an appeal filed by former MNA Jamshed Dasti against his jail sentence in fake degree case. Dasti, who was to contest elections against former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar as an independent, was sentenced to three years in prison by a district and sessions court after being convicted of possessing a fake seminary degree. The LHC will take up the case today. Meanwhile, ex-MPA Ali Madad Jattak filed a petition in the Balochistan High Court challenging his sentence in fake degree case. agencies
