Musharraf hopes he will not be clipped of right to contest polls

ISLAMABAD: Former president Pervez Musharraf has said he has full confidence on judiciary and hopes right to contest polls will not be snatched from him. Musharraf said this in his exclusive chat with BBC. He said he fully hoped justice would be administered to him by the courts. “If I don’t hope for dispensation of justice from the courts then I will pin this hope on whom,” he asked. The decision of holding the constitution in abeyance, proclamation of emergency and removal of judges was a correct decision, compatible with the environment of the time, he remarked. “There was such atmosphere prevailing over then wherein I was striving to put in place a democratic process and stable democratic order in the country. Certain actions were taken at that time. This is all history and these will be presented before the court”, he underlined. online
