LHC withdraws stay order over SBP deputy governor’s appointmentLAHORE: Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court on Tuesday withdrew the stay order and allowed Muhammad Ashraf Wathra to continue working as deputy governor of State Bank of Pakistan as election commission had no objection to the appointment.
The judge had earlier issued the restraint order while hearing a petition challenging all appointments made by the governments in violation of ban imposed by election commission of Pakistan (ECP). On Tuesday, the ECP’s counsel informed that the ministry of finance had sent a reply to the commission with regard Ashraf Wathra appointment and the ministry had said that this appoint was made to meet the operational needs of the bank and not for any political purpose. He also submitted that the ECP had approved the ministry’s reply and did not want any further action in this regard.
In light of the commission’s reply, the judge disposed of the matter to the effect of the impugned appointment. staff reportCourtesy www.dailytimes.com.pk
