By Kashif Hussain
LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) have finally reached an agreement on around 300 seats of national and provincial assemblies of Punjab in accordance with the 22-78 percent formula, sources told Daily Times on Wednesday.
According to the sources, there still is difference of opinion on some constituencies and seats, including that of Ahmad Mukhtar and Mukhdoom Shahabuddin, and the negotiators have left the issue for the next meeting. The sources in PPP as well as PML-Q told this scribe that after a long discussion spanning around eight hours, both the parties agreed to accommodate each other’s candidates, adopting the formula of 22 percent seats for the PML-Q against 78 percent for PPP in Punjab.
Sources said that according to the decision, out of total 98 National Assembly seats from central Punjab, the PPP has given 20 seats the PML-Q to field its candidates. More or less four to five constituencies, including Ahmad Mukhtar’s seat, are not included in the decision yet, sources said. The sources further said that out of total 200 provincial assembly seats from central Punjab, the PMLQ has agreed to contest on 48, while the PPP would field its candidates on 152 seats.
