Tribunal summons Musharraf over objections to candidacy

* Tribunal refers to CJ appeals filed against candidature of Nawaz

* Tribunal to hear appeal of Raja on 15th

* Tribunal accepts nomination papers of Nisar

PESHAWAR: An election tribunal on Thursday issued notice to former president Pervez Musharraf directing him to submit his reply to objections over acceptance of his nomination papers for NA-32 Chitral constituency.
The election tribunal of the Peshawar High Court heard objections over acceptance of Musharraf’s nomination papers for NA-32 Chitral. It issued notice to Musharraf asking him to appear before it on April 16 and respond to the objections raised by Abdul Akbar Khan Chitrali, Abdul Latif, Advocate Sajidullah, Khalilur Rahman and Alamzeb Khan.
Meanwhile, election tribunal comprising Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmad and Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan on Thursday referred to the chief justice appeals filed against the candidature of PML-N chief and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his brother former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif and PTI chief Imran Khan from NA-120, NA-129 and NA-122, respectively.
The tribunal requested the chief justice to fix these appeals before other election tribunal. The tribunal referred the matter to the chief justice, as Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmad was not inclined to hear the appeals against Sharif brothers with remarks that he had decided a case in favour of Hudabiya Paper Mill, which belongs to the Sharif family. The bench did not disclose the reason for not hearing appeal against Imran Khan.
Also, the election tribunal (ET) will hear appeal of former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf filed against rejection of his nomination papers for NA-51 constituency on April 15. Meanwhile, the tribunal on Thursday accepted the nomination papers of former leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
