Senate passes resolution Musharraf’s trial for treason

ISLAMABAD: The Senate has passed a resolution seeking the trial of former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf under article 6 of the constitution.

The resolution was presented by PML-N leader Ishaq Dar and was not opposed by any of the senators attending the session. Dar said the interim government should implement the orders of the judiciary along with ensuring the Senate’s resolution passed on 23 January 2012 is also implemented.

During the session a resolution to remove Musharraf’s picture from government buildings was also approved.

Caretaker Interior Minister Malik Habib addressed the session and said that Musharraf had been arrested and was in the custody of the government. He further informed senators that Musharraf's farmhouse residence had been declared sub-jail.

The senators were also critical of the decision made against sending Musharraf to prison. ANP leader Zahid Khan said the law should be the same for all citizens.
