SHC seeks notice of chalking on city walls
KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) issued joint directives to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and other political parties to file comments expressing what steps they have initiated for removal of political wall chalking and graffiti from the city walls.
SHC was hearing a petition on Tuesday, filed by Rana Faizul Hassan representing United Human Rights Commission.
The petitioner had submitted that chalking on the walls of the government and semi-government offices, and other buildings has destroyed the beauty of Karachi, adding political and religious parties and other organisations are involved in this act.
Earlier, SHC had issued notices to all the political parties and ECP in this regard. During the hearing on Tuesday, Muhammad Naseem Siddiqui on behalf of JI appeared before the court and requested for more time to file comments.
However, the office of the court informed that notice to some political parties have not been issued including MQM, PML-N, MQM-H, PML-Q, PTI, PPP-Shaheed Bhutto and Sunni Tehreek. The court ordered its officer to issue notice to these political parties. ppi
