Political parties worried over Karachi situation

KARACHI: Federal caretaker Interior Minister, Malik Habibullah, on second day of his visit to Karachi on Wednesday, continued meetings with political parties and listened to their concerns regarding law and order situation in the provincial capital. Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, Muhammad Hussain Mahenti and Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders, Syed Hafeezuddin, Imran Asmail and others called on the caretaker interior minister at a local hotel, separately. They expressed concern over deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, and demanded effective measures ahead of May 11 General Elections.

Talking to the media persons after their meeting, Mehanti said they had rejected declaration of selected polling stations as sensitive in the city, and demanded that the whole city should be declared sensitive. According to him, they also demanded deployment of the Army personnel at every polling station and booths on the polling day. He said that the caretaker interior minister listened to their concerns and apprehensions, and assured that all their apprehensions will be removed. staff report
