SC directs action against IGP over Musharraf escape
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected an appeal by Islamabad’s inspector general of police against the Islamabad High Court’s earlier decision for action against him over Pervez Musharraf’s escape from the court. Disposing of the plea, the Supreme Court directed the Interior Ministry to proceed against the IGP without any prejudice in response to the IHC verdict that had urged the ministry to take action against him over the escape of the former president from the premises of the high court after rejection of his bail application on April 18. Islamabad IGP Bani Amin Khan had challenged the IHC decision with a plea that the high court announced the verdict in the matter without hearing him. Advocate Abdul Aziz Chaudhry prayed the court to direct the Interior Ministry to conduct proceedings against Bani Amin without getting influenced by the observations of the IHC in the matter. staff report
