JI demands army deployment in entire city

Staff Report

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) asked to declare the entire city as ‘sensitive’ and demanded military presence at all polling stations on the day of elections, speaking at a press conference, JI Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti also appealed to remove no-go areas from the city.

Talking to media, Mehanti said that the JI workers are being threatened in several areas including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Federal B Area, New Karachi, North Nazimabad and Defence View by activists of another political party.

He was of the view that party flags, banners and posters have also been ragged by these elements in many areas of the city.

Citing a recent incident of violence, JI Karachi Chief said that the workers of another party badly tortured two JI workers namely Ejaz and Saad Ali Khan in Federal B area, Block 9, when they were busy in installing party flags and banners in the said area.

Informing about the details, Mahenti said that when the JI General Secretary Karachi Naseem Siddiqui went to concern police station to register an FIR against them, the police refused to do so. “Police is acting as B-team for the said political party, as it has not yet taken any step against the terrorists”, Mehanti alleged.

He further said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and caretaker government should take notice of the said terrorism incidents. Speaking on the occasion, Chief JI Sindh Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui said, “The elections in city should be held under the supervision of Army, as police has failed to ensure safety for the people”, he added.

He further said that the credibility of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakruddin G Ibrahim is dependent on the steps he takes against both the Taliban and ‘Zaliman’.
