Election Commission should ensure law and order for elections: CJ

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan resumed hearing of the election reforms case on Tuesday. During proceedings, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should ensure law and order for the elections to be free and fair.

The Chief Justice further remarked that the security of candidates and voters and an atmosphere of peace should be established. He added that the ECP was concentrating on law and order but further steps need to be taken.

The Chief Justice said that citizens in certain areas of the country were not safe. The court did not want to pass an order which will discourage the ECP, Chief Justice remarked.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned for two weeks.
