Musharraf approaches LHC for permission to contest elections

LAHORE: Former military president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf on Monday challenged the returning officer and election tribunal’s orders that declared him ineligible to contest elections from NA-139, Kasur, in the Lahore High Court. In a petition submitted in the LHC, Musharraf said that cases were pending against him but he was not yet convicted in any of them. He contended that it was his fundamental right to contest election, but the returning officer and the election tribunal had declared him ineligible to contest election from NA-139. He pleaded the court to set aside the orders and allow him to contest election from NA-139. A full bench of the Lahore High Court comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar will hear the matter today (Tuesday). app
