ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday disposed of a suo moto case regarding supply of contaminated cancer-diagnostic injections.
The court took notice of a news item published in The News on February 25 that the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH) has been supplying cancer diagnostic injections which are allegedly contaminated with undesirable radionuclides that could cause cancer instead of diagnosing it.
In his report submitted to a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, the PINSTECH director general said that quality acceptance tiers are functioning at the PINSTECH. He said that Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), being an independent regularity authority and licensor, also conducts random testing.
The court, in view of the report, observed that the news item was not based on a correct appreciation of the relevant facts.
