Objections to PMDC Ordinance strikes down
By Tanveer Ahmed
ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Nayyer Hussain Bokhari on Thursday struck down the objections of opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) about the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Ordinance, which the party believed is unconstitutional. Opposition Leader in Senate Ch Aitzaz Ahsan sought the ruling of chairman after the objections raised by Senator Raza Rabbani on PMDC (Amendment) Ordinance 2014 that it did not have the approval of the Council of Common Interest (CCI). He said that since it did not have the approval, the promulgation of this ordinance by the president was unconstitutional. The ordinance has also been challenged in the Sindh High Court, and the court passed an interim order on April 8, wherein functioning of the committee, that has been constituted under the ordinance, has been suspended until the next dated of hearing. However, the operation of ordinance has not been suspended.
