Nisar, Barton discuss security issues
*British envoy offers support in policing, counter-terrorism, anti-human and drug trafficking *Minister says Pakistan to continue to work closely with new Afghan government for lasting peace
ISLAMABAD – British High Commissioner Philip Barton called on Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, according to an official news release issued here on Tuesday.
Overall security situation in the region came under discussion with particular reference to FATA and Afghanistan. Nisar said that peace in Afghanistan was a key to peace in entire region and Pakistan would continue to work closely with new Afghan government for establishing lasting peace in the region.
He hoped that durable peace would prevail in the region especially in FATA as a result of government’s policy of dialogue. The government was trying to expedite this process of dialogue with positive outcome without any inordinate delay, he said.
The high commissioner appreciated the commitment of the government in putting Pakistan on the path of peace and development. He also highlighted the areas where UK could play a more vibrant role like policing, counter-terrorism, anti-human and drug trafficking.
Appreciating the recently announced national internal security policy, Barton particularly mentioned the cooperation build up in this sector in recent past. He hoped that the forthcoming visit of the prime minister will add to already strong relationship between two countries.
The minister said that close Pakistan-UK relations can play very important role in developing geo-political situation of the region.
