Pakistan hints at economic corridor from Gwadar to Kashgar

President suggests labour conferences in SAARC states turn by turn

LAHORE – President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday said that an economic corridor was going to be established from Gwadar to Kashgar which will strengthen the economy of not only Pakistan, but also the neighbouring countries including Iran, Nepal, Russia, Middle East and the Central Asian Republics.

Was addressing the concluding ceremony of the South Asia Labour Conference, he urged SAARC member countries to work together to fight poverty, ignorance, social injustice and intolerance. He hoped that the conference would be helpful in evolving an effective labour policy and improving socio-economic lift of the working class.

Mamnoon said the day was not far away when Pakistan would be a very important country of the region within a span of five years and play a dynamic role for regional development. He suggested that labour conferences should be held in all SAARC states turn by turn to enable the members to benefit from the experiences of one another for the betterment of their masses.

The president said more than half of the population of Pakistan consists of youth and there was a great need to develop the human resources of the country. The representatives of International Labour Organisation and the European Union also attended the conference.
