President for SAARC’s active role to overcome challenges

LAHORE: President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday stressed the need for extended cooperation among the SAARC countries to overcome common challenges.
Addressing the South Asia Labour Conference here at a local hotel, the president said SAARC countries were facing similar problems of regional differences, extremism and poverty and those could be resolved collectively. The president paid tribute to the European Union for awarding the GSP Plus status to Pakistan. “Pakistan will be one of the most important countries in the region within five years,” he added. He expressed the government’s determination to resolve issues of labourers for the prosperity of country.
Mamnoon said the Punjab government would announce its labour policy on May 1, which would help resolve problems of labour class. He stressed enforcement of labour laws and other agreements and hoped the conference will also be held in other countries of the region in future.
Mamnoon said a big change was coming in the region due to an economic corridor from Kashgar to Gwadar, which would be equally beneficial to all regional countries. He urged the nation to focus on education of children as they could make a strong society in future.
The president hoped the conference would provide an opportunity to the member countries to share benefits of experiments and ensure resolution of common issues. He said the conference was unique in its nature, which was a big achievement of the regional countries. Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Ch Abdul Majid, Labour Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, ministers and delegations from other countries also attended.
