Steps being taken to root out corruption: CM
* Malik says provision of less water is badly affecting agriculture sector in province
QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has said practical steps are being taken to eradicate corruption from Balochistan so that the fruits of good governance reach the masses.
He told media in Dera Murad Jamali that homework was underway to end patwari culture in the province. He said absenteeism of the teachers and doctors would not be tolerated come what may. Absent teachers and doctors would not get salaries, he said, and added that the difference of service structure between levis and police would be brought to an end by introducing a uniform administrative structure in Balochistan. “This would help us improve the law and order situation in the province and maintain peace,” he said, and added that levis force didn’t fulfil the requirements of the present era.
Malik said all the development schemes underway in Naseerabad division would be accomplished at the earliest. He said that Balochistan was receiving 3500 cusecs of water from Pat Feeder Canal instead of 6000 cusecs, which is badly affecting the agriculture sector in the area. He said that the water theft would be countered strictly in the area so that the growers could be provided some relief.
He said alleged corruption in the construction of roads in the Dera Allah Yar, Usta Muhammad, Jafferabad and Sobatpur would be investigated and orders to this effect had already been issued. He said work on the said roads will be completed by June this year.
The chief minister said steps have been taken to train growers and the land owners to increase crop yield.
He said protection of life and property of the people was the foremost duty of the government. He said stern action will be taken against elements violating the law. He said the incidents of target killing, kidnapping for ransom and robbery have considerably reduced, adding that common men needs to be provided the sense of security.
The chief minister said that police and levis force will be provided bulletproof jackets so that their performance could be improved. He said provincial government is committed to implement the system of merit while dislodging the old system of political interference in the administrative affairs. He stressed upon the administration and the police to play their role in providing relief to the masses.
