Govt to consult opp leader on PEMRA chief appointment
INP
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to consult the National Assembly leader of opposition Syed Khursheed Shah for the appointment of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman.
According to sources, the appointment of an independent regular chairman according to the rules would be made in the next two months. The sources said that the government has decided to consult the opposition leader in the appointment of the PEMRA chief, so that the opposition could not raise fingers on the government. The sources emphasised that the government would follow the required rules and procedures in the appointment of the PEMRA chief.
It is worth mentioning here that PEMRA is presently being run by an administrative committee comprising Pervaiz Rathore, Israr Abbasi and Ismail Shah. This committee has already issued a show-cause notice to Geo TV on the application of the Ministry of Defence.
