Nawaz shares govt priorities with Greening
PM appreciates British assistance in education, health
LONDON – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that his government is taking measures to revive the national economy through good governance, fiscal discipline and widening of tax base.
Talking to British International Development Secretary Justine Greening, the prime minister said that priorities of his government include revival of economy, energy efficiency, eradication of extremism and protection of human rights. Pakistan appreciates generous development assistance extended by Britain especially in education and health sectors, he said.
Nawaz welcomed increase in size and scope of the British International Development programme particularly in the field of education in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He hoped the programme would be expanded to Balochistan and other areas of Pakistan. The British secretary assured the prime minister that his government would remain committed to helping Pakistan in its social and economic development.
On his arrival, the prime minister told journalists that stability of Pakistan would be preserved. He expressed the hope that the ongoing dialogue process with Taliban would yield positive result. He said his government had sincerely started the dialogue process to ensure stability in Pakistan.
To a question, Nawaz said his current visit to Britain would further strengthen bonds between the two countries. He said that his meeting with British counterpart would bring both the countries closer. Nawaz also said that the economic indicators were showing upward and positive trends in Pakistan.
