Nishan-i-Imtiaz conferred on Malaysian defence forces’ chief

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday conferred the award of Nishan-i-Imtiaz (military) on General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr) Haji Zulkifeli Bin Mohammad Zin, Malaysia’s Chief of Defence Forces, at a special investiture ceremony held here at the President House.

The president decorated the Malaysian chief of defence forces with the award in recognition of his services for expanding and strengthening defence partnership between Pakistan and Malaysia.

Later, the Malaysian general called on the president. Talking on the occasion, the president said that Pakistan attached great importance to its brotherly relations with Malaysia and added that there was still scope for further enhancing bilateral defence cooperation. Highlighting the leading role of Pakistan in war on terror, he said Pakistan had rendered immense sacrifices in this regard.

President Mamnoon expressed the resolve that operation against terrorists and extremists would continue till the elimination of last terrorist. He appreciated the participation of Malaysian delegation in the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2014 and Pak Navy AMAN Exercise in Pakistan. Expressing satisfaction over the present level of cooperation between the navies of Pakistan and Malaysia, he called for further expanding collaboration between the two navies in the fields of submarine operation and maintenance.

The Malaysia’s chief of defence forces thanked the president for the award and expressed the hope that bilateral collaboration in diverse fields, especially in the defence area, would continue to grow in future.

Meanwhile, General Tan Sri Dato Sri Haji Zulkifeli bin Mohd Zin called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif at General Headquarters on Monday.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on issues of mutual interest including defence and security cooperation between both the countries and overall regional security situation, said an ISPR press release issued here.

The Malaysian chief of defence forces appreciated the successes during Operation Zarb-e-Azb and paid rich tributes to sacrifices rendered by the Pakistan Army in fight against terrorism.

The Malaysian general also called on Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Rashad Mahmood on Monday. Both of them discussed matters related to security situation and professional interest with an emphasis on mutual cooperation between the two armed forces. It was also reiterated that the already existing collaboration would be further enhanced.

General Tan Sri Dato appreciated the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces of Pakistan in eliminating the menace of terrorism. He also praised the commitment and resolve displayed by the people of Pakistan despite multiple challenges. Earlier on his arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, he was presented a guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent of the three services.
