Pakistan – The corruption case against the Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani has been concluded by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday.

Agha Siraj Durrani was under investigation for allegedly collecting assets that were beyond his known sources of income.

A reference case was filed by the accountability board’s Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal against Siraj Durrani on request of NAB Karachi, after the regional board meeting in Karachi.

Through the board meeting it was informed that the speaker had accumulated assets worth Rs 1.6 billion which was more than his sources of income.

The statement read as followed, “the assets were held by the accused, his family and various benamidars who have been recommended for trial.” Certain benamidars are alleged to be personal servants of the accused.

The list arranged by NAB shows 17 movable and immovable benamidar properties, which included a bombproof bungalow in his native town in Garhi Yasin in Sindh.

NAB Chairman was also asked by the regional board to also file a supplementary reference against the Senator Kamran Michael.

Evidence has been collected against the Senator in regards to his alleged role of receiving bribes which were worth Rs110 million through bank accounts by benamidars and his friends.

A statement was released stating, “the supplementary reference will be filed against him and other accused persons after approval of the competent authority.”

The bribes were alleged to be made in regards to the illegal sale of plots of the KPT Cooperative Housing Society.

It was believed by the NAB that the suspect had bought several properties with the illicit money in his brother’s name.

Durrani was detained on 20 February in Islamabad on accounts of allegedly making 352 fraudulent appointments and the embezzling of public funds for the MPA Hostel and the new Sindh Assembly building.

Zahid Hussain Baladi, NABs prosecutor had submitted details of the alleged assets owned by Durrani, and stated, “Disproportionate to his known sources of income.”
