Pakhtoons get identity after 63 years: Wali


ISLAMABAD: Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali hailed the decision regarding the change of NWFP’s name to Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw, Geo News reported Thursday.

Talking to media outside the Parliament, he aid the decision gave back to the Pakhtoons their identity after 63 years in Pakistan.

Terming today a highly important day, he said the promise in 1973 Constitution was fulfilled and also the Constitution was restored.

‘Every Pakhtoon will remain obliged to President Asif Ali Zardari, who used for the first time the word ‘Pakhtoonkhaw’ not only in Pakistan but also at the United Nations forum,’ he maintained.

Wali also thanked Mian Nawaz Sharif, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and other parties for their support.

On this occasion, he paid rich tribute to the Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, Chairman of the all parties Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms (PCCR), saying his (Raza’s) name would be written in gold letters in history of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Lauding the media role, ANP chief said, “It was media that forced us to sit together and resolve the issue, as we were under tremendous pressure from media in this entire episode.”

‘I promise that no exploitation would be allowed against anybody on the basis of ethnicity or caste or language,’ he stressed.
