Bilour ‘shocked’ over Ashraf’s refusal of Iranian electricity

By Tahir Niaz

ISLAMABAD: Senator Ilyas Bilour on Wednesday expressed ‘shock’ over the water and power minister’s lack of interest in the Iranian offer of supplying Pakistan 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity through Balochistan at a time when the country is facing a severe power crisis.

Speaking on a point of order, Bilour said the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan had told him during a recent meeting that Tehran had offered to supply 1,000 MW of electricity but Islamabad was not interested in the offer. Bilour said he talked to Raja Pervez Ashraf on the issue but could not get a clear reply from the power minister. He criticised Ashraf for not being serious about the offer at a time when Pakistanis were greatly suffering from load shedding.
