President to address joint session today

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari will address the members of Senate and National Assembly at a joint sitting of the Parliament, convened on April 5 (today).

Under the Constitution, the President addresses the joint sitting on completion of one year of the government in power and start of the next year of Parliament.

This time the Presidential address has been delayed due to ongoing sessions of both the Houses and deliberations of Constitutional Committee to prepare the proposals for 18th amendment in the Constitution.

National Assembly and Senate sessions were prorogued Friday after Chairman of Constitutional Reforms Committee, Senator Raza Rabbani presented the recommendations prepared by representatives of all political parties after nine-month mammoth deliberations.

With completion of previous year and the start of each year, the President overview the performance of the government during last year and propose more measures and guidelines to the government for next year to bring about positive changes in the lives of masses.
