We’ll serve masses at the cost of our lives, says Zardari
* President says 18th Amendment will ensure no dictator can trample constitution ever again
* Inaugurates first RPPGARHI KHUDA BUKHSH: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its leaders will continue to serve the country and the people, even if it means laying down their lives for this purpose, President Asif Ali Zardari said on Sunday.
“We will continue to serve Pakistan and its people even at the cost of our lives,” he said while addressing a gathering after inaugurating a transplant centre at Gumbut Medical Institute and the 6th draw of the Waseela-e-Haq programme under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
“We will continue to fight for our rights and those of the masses, without any fear of sacrifice,” he said.
Dictators: The president said the 18th amendment would ensure that no dictator trampled the constitution ever again.
He said some people might have wished that the government should have adopted constitutional amendments much earlier, “but there is a time for everything and it is being done now as the necessary consensus is there”.
Zardari said the PPP would continue to pursue the policies of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto for the uplift of the people. He said it was Bhutto’s philosophy that has continued to garner the overwhelming support of the masses.
He said the BISP aimed at empowering women and the PPP was struggling for the cause from day one.
Later the president distributed certificates among the women who were selected in the draw.
RPP: President Zardari later visited Naudero to inaugurate the first gas-powered rental power plant of having a capacity of producing 51 megawatts.
Addressing the participants of the ceremony, Zardari urged foreign investors to take advantage of the business opportunities in the country and establish energy and infrastructure projects in partnership with provincial governments.
The president thanked Walter Power International, which set up the power plant, for investing in interior Sindh, saying it would create thousands of jobs for the locals.
Zardari said the government was pursuing the policy of setting up projects through public-private-partnership while ensuring rights of the provinces.
“The provinces will have equity in power projects, which would help in creating projects worth billions of dollars,” he added.
The president asked the people to put their trust in the PPP government so that it could build a better future for the country. app
