KARACHI: Acting upon the Supreme Court (SC) orders, Site B police has registered an FIR against 7 persons including National Highway Authority (NHA) chairman Maj Gen Farrukh Javed and its director Yousuf Barakzai in the Shershah Bridge collapse case. Sindh Prosecutor General Shahadat Awan said the accused included NHA, advisors and the staff of contractor firm. Pakistan Chief Justice (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry during the course of hearing in Karachi SC registry had expressed displeasure over the performance of police in connection with the case. The CJP had ordered the police to register a fresh case and take stern action against the contractor and the NHA administration due to their negligence, and arrest those who were found to be responsible. Former president General Pervez Musharraf had inaugurated the one-kilometre long Shershah Bridge over the Karachi Northern Bypass on August, 6, 2007 that collapsed 25 days after its inauguration on September 1, 2007. online
