Contempt plea filed against Babar Awan with SC
ISLAMABAD: A contempt-of-court petition against Federal Law Minister Babar Awan was filed with the Supreme Court on Friday, saying the minister is obstructing the implementation of the SC verdict declaring the National Reconciliation Ordinance null and void. Tariq Asad advocate filed the petition under Article 204 of the 1973 Constitution, read with Section 3 of the Contempt of Court Act 1976. The petitioner said the minister’s refusal to provide former attorney general Anwar Mansoor Khan relevant material and Awan’s decision to retrain Anwar from completing the legal process of communication with the Swiss authorities for the reopening of cases were tantamount to obstruction of justice. Mansoor recently resigned from the office of attorney general, after telling the SC that Awan and his ministry were not allowing him to deal with matters related to the reopening of the Swiss cases. staff report
