Power crisis batters with 9 to 15-hr load shedding

LAHORE: Acute power crisis is still raging in the country as shortfall persists near 5000 Megawatts, Geo News reported Sunday.

Two hours have been deducted from the daily spans of power load shedding in the wake of violent protests in various Lahore areas.

According to the announcement made by the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), power generation is 10,200 MW and demand is 15,323 MWs. Hydal Production is 2612, Thermal at 2450 and the power attained from IPPs is 5200 MWs.

To meet the shortfall, load shedding of nine hours in Lahore is in progress and 15 hours of load shedding in rural areas.

The Pepco officials assured that the shortfall will come down after April 15 and hence, the load shedding spans will shrink.

The excessive load shedding led to the shortage of water in Lahore.
