Pervez Ashraf sees reduced power outages after April
LAHORE: Water and Power Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that the ongoing power crisis would improve within a month, a private TV channel reported on Sunday. Ashraf said water inflow in dams would increase and a few independent power plants (IPPs) would start operating in the next month, which would help improve the power shortfall in the country. Talking to reporters during his visit to the National Power Control Centre in Islamabad, he said contracts with the operators of two rental power plants installed during the pervious government’s tenure had been cancelled. He said the two rental plants were not in operation due to the non-availability of gas, but the government was still paying $600,000 per month to these plants. The minister said little rainfall in the ongoing year had led to the low generation of electricity. daily times monitor
