Early hearing of petition against Swiss cases’ reopening sought
LAHORE: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking an early hearing of a petition challenging the reopening of Swiss cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
Barrister Zafarullah Khan filed the petition on behalf of the Watan Party. The petitioner said that in view of the seriousness and urgency of the matter, the main petition be fixed for hearing immediately. The main petition had requested the apex court to withdraw its earlier orders issued to the NAB for reopening cases against President Zardari. It said that the president enjoyed immunity under Article 248 of the constitution, therefore, the cases could not be reopened. Petitioner stated that it was mandatory for all institutions of the state to respect the constitution, therefore, the directives issued to NAB for reopening Swiss cases should be withdrawn. staff report
