PPP not looking for revenge, says Zardari
* President says PPP only wants to punish ‘those who deserve punishment’
* ‘18th Ament a better revenge from dictators’
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is not looking to take revenge for Benazir Bhutto’s killing, President Asif Ali Zardari said on Friday following the publication of the UN report on Benazir’s murder.
“We were not and we still aren’t looking for any revenge. We are looking to get the history corrected. We are looking to punish those who deserve punishment,” President Zardari said while speaking at a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in honour of the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms.
The president said democracy was the best revenge, adding, “I think the 18th Amendment is a better revenge from the dictators of all times than anything could have been in the light of Benazir Bhutto’s vision and in the memory of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.”
He congratulated all members of parliament, the prime minister, the committee members and the party workers for achieving a consensus on the 18th Amendment. However, he said there was a lot more to be done.
“All these amendments have to be implemented, the NFC Award has to be implemented. So I will very humbly request all the parliamentarians and all political parties to stay together as they have been in the past to look forward to getting things done and to get the amendments implemented,” he added.
President Zardari said all political parties and the people in the country had always been supportive of democracy and were united for the cause of democracy. app
