Nawaz declines Mehtab Abbasi’s resignation
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Mehtab Abbasi presented his resignation from the National Assembly (NA) seat and party membership over the renaming of NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa, a private TV channel reported on Saturday. Mehtab, NWFP’s former chief minister, sent his resignation to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, but he rejected it and asked him to continue his work as an MNA. In his resignation letter, he said that being an MNA of the PML-N he was bound to first send his resignation to his party chief instead of the NA speaker. “I was elected on the PML-N ticket, that is why I sent my resignation to Nawaz,” Mehtab said. Mehtab was against the renaming of NWFP and did not vote in the NA in favour of Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa as the province’s new name. Separately, Hazara Action Committee Chairman Sardar Haider Zaman said that if Mehtab wanted to resign, he should have done it before the signing of the draft of the 18th Amendment. “Now he can’t fool the public by staging his resignation drama,” the channel quoted Zaman as saying. daily times monitor
