Justice (rtd) Anwar new AG

ISLAMABAD: Justice (rtd) Maulvi Anwarul Haq has taken over as the new Attorney General of Pakistan, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The office was lying vacant after Justice (rtd) Anwar Mansoor Khan resigned.

Anwarul Haq is one of those judges of Lahore High Court (LHC), who took oath on the PCO of Gen (rtd) Pervez Musharraf in violation of Supreme Court (SC) verdict on November 3, 2007.

Following the SC verdict declaring Nov 3 steps as extra-constitutional announced by the 14-member SC bench on July 31, a notice of court contempt was issued to Maulvi Anwarul Haq, who tendered his resignation as judge of the High Court.

Maulvi Anwarul Haq was deputy Attorney General in Mian Nawaz Sharif’s era, when a letter was written to Swiss officials to make Benazir Bhutto and her husband Asif Ali Zardari the party to cases of money laundering.

Anwar assisted the then Attorney General (late) Chaudhry Farooq in preparation of the letter.
