FIA to question 6 ‘OSDs’ in Benazir murder case
RAWALPINDI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday decided to interrogate six demoted police officials about the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
The officers who would be interrogated include Crime Investigation Department (CID) Additional Inspector General (IG) Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, former Rawalpindi Capital Police Officer (CPO) Saud Aziz, Operations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yasin Farooq, Headquarters SSP Ishfaq Anwar and former Rawal Town SSP Khurram Shahzad Haider Warraich.
On the recommendation of the federal government, a total of six police officials were made officers on special duty (OSD) for failing to provide foolproof security to Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2007. Separately, a trial court judge accepted an application of the FIA to interrogate the suspects of the Kamra suicide bombing, which happened in October last year, to determine whether they were involved in Benazir’s assassination.
Also on Wednesday, a special Anti-Terrorism Court-I adjourned the hearing of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case until May 5, as the FIA submitted an application seeking a time of two weeks for fresh investigations after the release of the UN report on the former prime minister’s assassination. app
