Sindh cabinet endorses energy conservation plan
KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet Friday endorsed the federal government’s energy conservation plan and the decision to observe two-day public holidays in a week on every Saturday and Sunday with immediate effect. This was informed by the Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at a press briefing at the Chief Minister’s House here on Friday. Provincial Information Adviser Jameel Ahmed Soomro was also present on the occasion. The chief minister said the Sindh government had decided to implement the two public holidays on every Saturday and Sunday, alongside the 50 percent reduction in power consumption by the president, prime minister, elected representatives and other high-ranking officials according to the energy conservation plan. He said that air conditioners at government offices would not be switched on before 11am, only alternate streetlights would be lighted, bill boards would remain off throughout the day, shops and shopping centres would be closed by 8pm, commercial lighting would be completely banned, marriage halls would only use electricity from 9pm to 12pm. ppi
