Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to discuss proposed Hazara province
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and members of the provincial assembly from Hazara decided on Wednesday to debate the proposed Hazara province and formation of the Abasin division in the next assembly session. The proposal came at a consultative meeting between the government and MPAs from Hazara. Briefing reporters about the meeting, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the government was ready to hold a dialogue with the Hazara Action Committee on the renaming issue, the proposed provincial status for Hazara and the formation of the Abasin division. However, the provincial minister warned that nobody would be allowed to damage public property and take law into their own hands. Iftikhar said the sentiments and views of the people of Hazara would be respected and the issues would be thoroughly discussed in the next session of the provincial assembly. The
minister said the meeting condemned the April 12 violence in Hazara and proposed a judicial probe into the matter at the earliest. He said the MPAs from Hazara would be taken into confidence and efforts would be made for a durable and lasting peace in the region. Iftikhar said protest was the constitutional and democratic right of the Hazara people. “But
the protest should be within the ambit of law,” he added. The minister said the government accepted the democratic right of the people and they should act in a democratic manner. He said steps would be taken against those challenging the writ of the government and those involved in killing innocent people. Iftikhar said the government had called another meeting with the Hazara lawmakers today (Thursday) to discuss the present situation. zakir hassnain
