Strong institutions vital for democracy, says Dr Firdaus

SIALKOT: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) believes in the supremacy of law and strong institutions, as it had made great sacrifices for this purpose, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdaus Ashiq Awan said.

Addressing public meetings in different areas in NA-111 on Sunday, she said people who wanted a clash between institutions would be disappointed for not having their dreams fulfilled.

Dr Firdaus made it clear that the PPP would not become a tool for fulfilling the wishes of anyone.

She said the PPP leadership was making efforts for the promotion of a democratic culture and strengthening of the democratic institutions in the country.

“The PPP will foil every move to destabilise and derail democracy in the country because Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, throughout their lives, had struggled for democracy and had embraced martyrdom for it,” the minister added.

She said that it was the national obligation of all political parties to work for the betterment of the country and the masses. “The PPP-led government is making all-out effort to end backwardness in rural areas and bring them at par with the developed areas of the country,” Dr Firdaus said.

Special attention will be paid on the construction of roads and bridges to improve means of communication and link the backward areas with their district headquarters, she added.

The information minister said the government was endeavouring to bridge the gap between the rural and urban areas of the country, and added that all basic facilities, including the provision of gas, healthcare, education, etc, would be ensured in the far-off areas of the country.

She said that it was unfortunate that the elected representatives of the area (NA-111) had hoodwinked their voters in the past and failed to provide any facility to them, as a result of which people were facing problems. “But the government is using all available resources to uplift the neglected areas,” Dr Firdaus added. app
