SC takes notice of government’s failure to remove PCO judges

By Hasnaat Malik

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC), on Wednesday, while taking notice of non-implementation of its May18 verdict pertaining to the removal of serving PCO judges through a simple notification, issued notices to the Attorney General (AG) Maulvi Anwarul Haq and Secretary Law Division Masood Chishti to appear on August 5 (Friday).

Justice Amir Hani Muslim had heard the matter on July 26 in his chamber, in which the government had assured the honourable judge that it would implement the verdict in letter and spirit, but the PCO judges were not de-notified.

Justice Amir Hani Muslim, therefore, forwarded the matter to Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for further action.

The CJ taking notice of non- implementation of its verdict, delivered on May 18, has fixed hearing of the case on Friday (tomorrow) in Courtroom No1, which would be presided over by him.

A high official revealed to Daily Times that the Law Ministry had already forwarded summary to the prime minister regarding the removal of serving PCO judges.
