Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Japan: Naek

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan attaches great importance to its friendly relations with Japan and regards the country as an important friend and partner, this was stated by the Senate Chairman, Farooq H Naek while talking to the newly appointed Japan Ambassador to Pakistan, Hiroshi OE who called on him at the Parliament House on Thursday.

The chairman expressed grief and sympathies for the victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. He hoped that the resilient people of Japan will successfully overcome these difficulties and crises. He also reiterated Pakistan’s full support at this difficult time and said that Pakistan is ready to provide any assistance to Japan to overcome this unprecedented challenge.

While appreciating Japanese assistance for socio-economic development of Pakistan, the chairman said, “Our focus is on economic cooperation to help address current economic difficulties and promote greater trade and investment linkages. We seek mutually beneficial ties particularly in economic sphere through joint ventures, project cooperation and public-private partnership.” He hoped that two friendly countries might further enhance trade which is for below its potential.

The chairman underscore the need for enhanced exchange of parliamentary delegations between two countries to promote people-to-people contacts. The chairman also invited the Japanese parliamentarians to visit Pakistan especially when session of the Senate is on. While reciprocating the sentiments, the Ambassador Hiroshi thanked the senate chairman for receiving him and expressed the confidence that the friendly relations between Pakistan and Japan would further strengthened with the passage of time. He assured that he will make all possible efforts to further consolidate the existing friendly relations between the two countries.

On the occasion, the chairman wished him all successes in his diplomatic assignment and assured him of government’s full support in the discharge of his official responsibilities.
