Death toll in Lyari building collapse rises to 21
KARACHI: The death toll from Thursday's building collapse in Mossa Lane Lyari has risen to 21, Geo News reported.
Deputy Commissioner South Mustafa Jamal Qazi has said that three owners of the building have been apprehended. Three surrounding buildings have also been evacuated, he added. Qazi said two temporary camps have been set up for the evacuees of the said three buildings. President Asif Ali Zardari has announced compensation for the affectees and the decision in this regard would be made soon, Qazi added.
Almost 50 percent of the rubble from the building has been cleared while residents of three buildings who were evacuated are protesting because they are not being allowed to enter their homes and take their possessions. In protest they have blocked roads which are causing a hindrance in rescue efforts.
