Number of BISP beneficiaries to reach 7m next month: Raja

LAHORE: Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Farzana Raja said that the number of beneficiary families registered with BISP would rise up to 7 million by the next month while addressing a cheque distribution ceremony at the Governor’s House.
She said that 96% of the nationwide poverty survey has already been completed and that more than 5.4 million families have enrolled with BISP. She said that the Pakistan Peoples Party was responsible for giving people back their rights and that BISP was successfully advancing this mission.
Punjab Governor Latif Ahmad Khosa, Federal Minister Samina Khalid Ghurki, Makhdoom Shahab-ud-Din, Imtiaz Safdar Warriach, Sami Ulalh Khan and Tanvir Ashraf kaira were also present on the occasion.
Farzana Raja lauded the efforts made by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani for advancing the mission of the late Benazir Bhutto. She said that Benazir Bhutto had sacrificed her life to serve the people of Pakistan and to protect their rights. “Hence, we will not allow anybody to create hurdles between the poor people of Pakistan and BISP, which is established to serve them,”
she said.
Farzana Raja said that all families registered with BISP were being included in the balloting under the Waseela-e-Haq scheme. She said that every registered family was being covered by a life insurance of Rs 100,000 and that a member from each registered family would be given vocational or technical training.
Farzana Raja said that some elements were busy spreading baseless rumors and allegations against BISP. She said that the facts, however, were a befitting response to such rumour mongering: till now, more than Rs 88 billion had been distributed. app
