Pakistan in touch with UK on safety of Pakistanis: FO


ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office, on Thursday, said it was in close contact and constant interaction with Pakistan’s High Commission in London and its consulate in Birmingham following the riots in which three British nationals of Pakistani origin were killed Wednesday night in order to ensure security of Pakistanis living in the United Kingdom. Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahmina Janjua, in weekly press briefing, said, “Pakistan’s High Commissioner to UK Wajid Shamsul Hassan is in close contact with the Pakistani community living in the United Kingdom, especially in Birmingham, in order to address their concerns relating to their safety following the riots. She said in the wake of ongoing riots in Britain, Pakistan’s high commissioner to UK had called upon people of Pakistani origin to immediately report to the police and the High Commission or a nearest consulate in case they faced any incident of violence. The spokesperson said three Pakistanis, who were killed in the riots were British nationals and providing them security was responsibility of the British government. She said Pakistan’s High Commission in London and its consulate general in the UK were fully alive to the situation and would be ready to render any assistance to the Pakistani community. app
