IG wants action against officers attended US consulate Iftar
LAHORE: Punjab government has decided to send a memo to the federation for actions against the police officers, who had attended the U.S. consulate’s Iftar dinner, on the advice of the Punjab IG police.
Earlier, taking notice of the participation of a group of senior police officers in an `Iftar party of the US Consulate` in Lahore, Inspector General of Punjab Police Javed Iqbal on Thursday sought an explanation from them within three days. However, the IG found their explanations dissatisfactory and recommended to the Punjab government for actions against them
DIG Training Arif Nawaz, Punjab Constabulary Deputy Commandant, DIG Khadim Hussain, SP VVIP Security Waqas Akram, SSP Elite Force, Major retd. Shahryar, SSP Headquarters, Major retd. Nasrullah, SP Headquarter, Rommel Akram, SSP Sohai Sakher and SSP Admin Tariq Abbas Quraishi had attende the US Consulate Iftar dinner.
DIGs Khadim Husain Bhatti and Arif Nawaz, SSP Muhammad Ali Nekokara and SPs Capt Rommel Akram (retired) and Waqasul Hasan and others attended the Iftar at the residence of a US official residing on Zafar Ali Road.US Consulate Principal Officer Carmela Conroy also attended the Iftar as a `visitor`, the sources claimed.
Punjab police spokesman said that these officers were found guilty of violating the rules and regulations relating to the conduct of police officers, but as they being the employees of the federation, actions against them could be taken at their end. The spokesman said that the Punjab government would be writing a letter to the federation for actions against them. Their services could also be returned to the federation, he said.
